(that's you!)
Writing is hard.
It really is.
From the very first time we had to write about giraffes in 1st Grade to those 12-page college essays, writing is the constant challenge of finding the right words. It's the struggle of getting what is in our head out on paper. Even the most prolific authors still experience the agony of writer's block and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary remains one of the best-selling books of all time.
For creatives, it's a battle of the heart as well as the mind. Since we're this expressive soul in one area then surely writing must come naturally to us, right?
Oh, so wrong.
Ready for some real talk?
No one is great at everything.
You might find a photographer who dabbles in graphic design. Or a pianist that creates beautiful paintings, inspired by the music that flows from them so effortlessly. Or a chef that knits tiny baby Yodas (it's a thing, look it up).
But you'd be hard-pressed to find a world-renowned photographer who composes concertos, has a popular cooking show, writes & illustrates their own series of children's books, handsews aprons, and designs websites in their spare time while also being a sought-after event planner. (And if you do know someone like that, I'd like to interview them, please.)
The truth is, we don’t have to be amazing at everything. We’re amazing simply because we ARE. We pursue our passions, develop our hobbies, and try and fail at a hundred different things. We don't have to do it all or do everything to perfection. That's a difficult concept to wrap our minds around, but it doesn't change its validity.
Instead, do what you can and for everything you either don't enjoy or struggle with, get some help. Hire an expert, outsource the task, and put your energy back into the things you do love and offer the most return on the mental, physical, financial, and emotional investment. Because those are things where you'll enjoy the most success and enjoy doing the most.
